Department Introduction

The Dentistry Division was established in 1980 as a small department in the hospital. There were only three treatment chairs at that time. The size of the staff and the number of patients were both small, and our space was limited to one corner of the First Medical Building. Our medical services were confined to general dentistry.

Five years later, we had nine chairs. Equipment was updated and there were more dentists. However, the space was still cramped. The real expansion and development began in 1985, when we moved into the Second Medical Building, where there was bigger room for equipment and staff.

In 1997, the dental division moved into the Mei De Building with an open clinic design. The number of chairs increased to 17 and there was an outpatient operating room, a children’s dental treatment room and a special room for the disabled. We began to recruit former students as reinforcement and grew bigger to a subspecialty level. We moved again in April 2002 to the Rehabilitation Medical Building and has stayed there since then.

Yuan-Chien Chen

Director-General

Doctor Chen has travelled abroad many times to countries like the USA to received clinical training and is one of the Hospital’s Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. He has spend a significant part of his time in treating Maxillofacial Jaw function abnormality – “Orthognathic surgery”, with outstanding performance being the basis of central Taiwan. In the recent years, he has led the use of Orthognathic surgery to treat “obstructive sleep apnea syndrome” patients. In 1998, he introduced auto “ tibial cancellous bone grafting” and “ J-bone block Iliac bone” to reconstruct top/bottom palatine, alveolar bone damage to allow for “Dental Implant” treatment , treating countells patients with serious orthodontic defects.

Ming-Gene Tu

Doctor Ming-Gene Tu is an expert in dental pulp; specializing in traditional endodontic treatment (30 cases a month), dental pulp active treatment (20 cases a month), Surgical endodontic treatment (5 cases a month)

Jian-Hong Yu

Director

Doctor Jian-Hong Yu has a doctorate degree in Orthodontics of Tokyo Medical and Dental University and is one of the pioneers in introducing the LH technique. Doctor Yu specializes in malocclusion, tooth impaction guidance and other orthodontics treatment (treatment of malocclusion, overbite, bailer, rigid face etc., or pediatric bone development abnormality, providing growth conditioning control)Some tooth impaction can be adjusted through braces and pulled back to its normal position, returning aesthetic appearance and occlusion function.

Kuo-Ting Sun

Doctor Kuo-Ting Sun specializes in pediatric dentistry, Juvenile Orthodontics and dentistry for mentally and physically impaired. The American Association of Orthodontists suggest children to undergo initial professional Orthodontist specialist evaluation at the age of 6 and to undergo frequent check-ups. The specialist shall provide expert evaluation and treatment suggestions. Adjustments may include: 1) The gap between incisors is too large; 2) open bite; 3) anterior bite; 4) Premature loss or defect of milk tooth; 5) Severe open bite, anterior bite and mandibular prognathism; 6) Lateral Deviated Mandible etc.

I-Ting Wu

Doctor I-Ting Wu is an Attending physician that specializes in the treatment of periodontal diseases, Gum regeneration treatment and tooth implant. Periodontal disease treatments such scaling and after root planting (non-surgical treatment) or Periodontal regeneration surgery, most cases of periodontal disease can be controlled. Controlled periodontal disease allows teeth to be used for an extra 10~20 years. Although tooth implant technologies have become very mature, we still recommend patients to keep their biological teeth.

Tai-Nien Lu

Doctor Tai-Nien Lu acquired a master degree in dentistry at New York University. Doctor Lu specializes in fixed or removable denture and dental implant. Dentures are artificial device which replaces tooth. It is normally used for individuals who have lost tooth in accidents or tooth loss from old age. Dentures is divided into removable dentures and implant dentures. Removable dentures can be removed from ones mouth at any given time and is often seen on patients who have lost multiple teeth. Dental implant are for individual missing teeth in the alveolar bone using titanium alloy. Doctor Lu will assess the patients needs and teeth conditions in implementing dentures.

Doctor Yuan-Hou Chen is an dentistry expert, who specializes in Orthodontics. Doctor Chen is acquired his master degree from Graduate Institute of Dentistry, National Taiwan University. Although orthodontic treatment can give patients organized teeth, proper occlusion; like all medical treatment, the process contains a lot of uncertain factors. Thus, it is important to understand the whole treatment process, face shape, possible problems that may arise. Only through tight cooperation with doctors can the results be satisfactory.

Doctor Chia-Shuo Yeh is a dental specialist who specializes in endodontic treatment (30 cases a month), dental pulp treatment ( 20 cases a month), surgical endodontic treatment (5 cases a month).Endodontic treatment includes: 1) neuro abstraction; 2) removal of internal necrosis tissue and bacteria, enlargement of endodonts; 3) using specialized dental filling on dental pulp. Endodontic treatments can be divided into two types: non-surgical and surgical. In the recent years, with the constant improvement of dental pulp treatment, technology like ultrasound has been reused on dental pulp treatments, in acting as a supplementary for traditional suture, enhancing medical treatment.
